Fund Drive

Each spring for the past 37 years, First United Methodist has sponsored the
Shirley Teten Scholarship Fund Drive and more recently added the Leah Z.
Haworth PreKindergarten Memorial
.  Shirley is the daughter of one of our retired
preschool teachers, Mrs. Ruby Gregory,  Ruby taught at First United Methodist for
many years and Early Childhood teachers at Riverside Community College still make
reference to Mrs. Gregory and her progressive ideas concerning children and play.
Ruby’s daughter, Shirley passed away of a sudden heart attack leaving Ruby to
raise her three grandchildren.  In loving memory of her daughter, the Shirley
Teten Memorial Scholarship Fund was born and to this day provides young children
a good beginning to the life long learning.
On behalf of First United Methodist’s Preschool Board and Staff, we would like to
invite our families and friends to help support our scholarship goal of $6,000.00.
This would provide yearly scholarships for five (5) children to attend FUMPS two
days a week.
We offer these scholarships to children who will be eligible for Kindergarten by
the following year and who, for financial reasons, might not be able to attend but
would benefit from a nurturing preschool experience.  Recommendations come from
parents and friends acquainted with our school, and through community and church
referrals.
It is through your donations and donations from our church family and friends that
we are able to provide such assistance to our young families.
If you would like to participate,
please make your checks payable to FUMPS
with the notation “scholarship”.

Mail checks to FUMPS @ 4845 Brockton Ave. Riverside, CA 92506.
Attn: Lee Ann Salmon
Any amount (large or small) is greatly appreciated. We will keep you informed as to
our progress toward our goal of $6,000.00.

All applications for scholarship must be submitted no later than Friday, May 29,
2009 to be approved for the 2009/2010 preschool year.
